Ingredients

  • cucumbers to fill gallon jar
  • 4 Tbsp. alum
  • 4 Tbsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. pickling salt
  • 8 c. sugar
  • vinegar
  • 1/2 c. water

Directions

    Fill jar with fresh, washed whole cucumbers.

    Put in next 3 items on top of pickles.

    Fill jar with vinegar.
  4. 4
    Let stand until December.

    Take out cucumbers and wash in cold water to remove alum and salt.

    Slice and put back in jar.

    Add sugar and water. Put lid back on jar.

    Turn upside down each day until sugar turns to syrup and comes up over pickles.

    They are ready to eat.

    Store in refrigerator.
