Cinnamon Apple Bread Pudding

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 2 c. milk
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp. butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. cubed (1/2-inch) firm-textured dry bread
  • 2 c. peeled, sliced tart apples
  • Orange Sauce

Directions

    In medium bowl blend eggs, sugar, milk, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, 1 tablespoon of butter and vanilla.

    Add bread; mix well. Pour into a buttered 1 1/2-quart casserole.

    Dip apple slices in remaining 1 tablespoon butter and arrange slices on top. Set casserole in a larger dish and place in a preheated 350° oven.

    Pour enough hot water in pan to come up 3/4 inch.

    Bake, uncovered, about 1 hour.

    Serve warm with Orange Sauce.
