- 12 large tart apples
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. water
- 8 or 9 oz. pkg. red hots
- few drops red food coloring
Directions

1Peel and core apples and set aside.

2Boil 10 minutes or until candy melts the remaining ingredients to make syrup; stir often. Cook apples in syrup until tender.

3Turn apples in syrup while cooking to color evenly; do not overcook.

4Cook just until fork-tender and they are red.

5Place apples in dish and pour remaining syrup over them.

6Place in refrigerator.

7Will keep at least a week.

8Serves 10 to 12.
