Classic Date Bars

Ingredients

  • 8 ozs. chopped Dates
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1 1/2 tsp. Vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups Quick Cooking Oats
  • 1 1/2 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 cup firmly packed Brown
  • Sugar
  • 3/4 tsp. Baking Soda
  • 3/4 tsp. Salt
  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) Butter (melted)
  • 1 cup finely chopped Walnuts or Pecans

Directions

    Combine dates and water in saucepabn, bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally for 3 - 4 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in Vanilla.

    Combine Oats, Flour, Brown Sugar, Baking Soda and Salt in bowl, mix well. Stir in Butter.

    Spread 2 1/2 cups Oat Mixture in bottom of a 9 inch square baking pan; press gently to make a firm crust. Top with Date filling.

    Combine nuts with remaining Oat mixture, sprinkle over Date filling. Press gently into filling.

    Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

    Cool in pan on wire rack. Cut into 36 squares.
