Classic Salisbury Steaks

Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef, lean lean meat results in a meatier texture
- 13 cup bread crumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 large eggs
- 1 each onions sliced
- 10 1/2 ounces beef stock one can, prefer veal stock if possible
- 6 ounces mushrooms, canned pieces
- 2 tablespoons water cold
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
Directions

1Mix ground beef, bread crumbs, salt, pepper and egg; shape into 4 oval patties, each about 3/4 inch thick.

2Cook patties in skillet over medium heat, turning occasionally, until brown, about ten minutes; drain off any accumulated fat.

3Add onion, broth and mushrooms.

4Heat to boiling, reduce heat and simmer until beef is done, about 10 minutes.

5Remove patties, keep warm.

6Heat onion mixture to boiling.

7Mix water and cornstarch; stir into onion mixture.

8Boil and stir 1 minute.

9Place one steak on each plate, spoon the onions and mushroom gravy over each steak.

10Serve with mashed potatoes.
