Classic Shepherd's Pie

- 400 grams Ground Beef
- 1 large Onion, chopped up
- 5 large Potatoes
- 1 medium Carrot, diced
- 1/2 cup Green Peas
- 5 medium Champignons, sliced
- 1/4 cup Milk
- 1/2 cup Water
- 3 tbsp Butter
- 3 tbsp Olive oil
- 2 clove Garlic
- 1 tbsp Dark Soy Sauce
- 1 Salt, Pepper, Thyme, Seasoning
- 1 Cheddar Cheese
- 1/4 cup Corn
Directions

1Making the Mashed Potato: Peel and quarter the potatoes.

2Boil in water for about 20 - 25 minutes, until you are able to poke through the potato easily with a fork.

3Remove from water and allow potatoes to cool.

4Mash potatoes in a large bowl with a potato masher or a fork.

5Add the milk and butter in gradually.

6Blend in until the mash becomes a smooth consistency.

7Add salt and pepper to taste.

8Making the Meat Filling: Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan.

9Saute the clove and onions for a few minutes.

10Next, add carrots and mushrooms.

11Saute till the carrots are soft.

12Add the ground beef.

13Stir fry till beef turns light brown.

14Add the dark soy sauce for color.

15Add the green peas and corn.
-
16Add salt, pepper and seasoning to taste.

17Add water and allow to simmer for about 10 mins.

18Add more water if needed so that there is some gravy and the beef does not dry out.

19Making the Pie: Transfer the meat filling to a baking dish and level it out so that the filling covers the entire base of the dish.

20Sprinkle some cheddar cheese over.

21Next, add the mash on top of the meat filling and spread it out with the back of a spoon (do not press the mash down into the filling otherwise too much gravy will seep into the mash).

22Use a fork to rough up the surface of the mash.

23Baste the mash with a little butter and sprinkle the bread crumbs on top.

24Bake in oven on max heat for about 15 mins or until the potato crust turns golden brown and slightly crispy.
