- 2 c. sifted flour
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 beaten egg
- 2/3 c. milk (for drop biscuit, increase milk to 3/4 c. and omit kneading)
Directions

1Sift together dry ingredients.

2Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3Combine egg and milk; add to flour and mix all at once.

4Stir until dough follows fork around bowl.

5Turn out on lightly floured surface; knead gently with heal of hand, about 20 strokes.

6Roll dough to 3/4-inch thickness and cut with floured cutter.

7Place on ungreased pan 3/4-inches apart for crusty biscuits, close together for soft sided.

8Bake at 450° for 10 to 14 minutes.
