  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/4 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 c. very cold water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. soda

Directions

    Sift together flour, cocoa and salt.

    Cream together sugar and shortening.

    Add eggs, vanilla and soda to creamed mixture.

    Add water alternately with dry ingredients to creamed mixture.

    Blend well.

    Fill muffin cups 1/2 full.

    Sprinkle chocolate chips and 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional) over batter.

    Bake at 375° for 20 to 25 minutes.
