- 3 c. sugar
- 1 c. milk
- 6 drops red food coloring
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 2 (7 oz.) pkg. coconut, finely grated
Directions

1Butter 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan.

2Fold and place sheet of aluminum foil down middle of pan to divide it in half.

3Heat sugar, cream of tartar and milk to boiling in heavy saucepan.

4Let simmer until 230° on thermometer.

5Remove from heat.

6Stir in coconut.

7Spoon half into one side of pan.

8Blend in food coloring into remaining half and pour into other side of pan.

9Chill for 2 to 3 hours. Cut into 1-inch cubes.

10For gifts, alternate colors in apothecary jar.
