   Heat oven to 375°.

   Grease and flour a square 9 x 9-inch pan. Mix flour, sugar, shortening and egg thoroughly.

   Stir in milk. Blend dry ingredients; stir in.

   Spread batter in pan.

   Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until toothpick in center comes out clean.
