Ingredients

  • 1 c. strong coffee
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. cream
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp. almond extract or 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 c. broken pecans or hickory nuts

Directions

    Bring to a boil in large, heavy pan.

    Remove from heat until dissolved:

    sugar, cream, butter, salt and cream of tarter.

    Cook, stirring constantly, until boiling.

    Cover and cook 3 minutes. Uncover and cook over moderate heat.

    Add almond extract or cinnamon.

    Beat until mixture starts to harden.

    Add nuts.

    Pour onto buttered surface.

    Permit the candy to cool and harden before cutting into squares.
