- 2 c. corn meal
- 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. white sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 4 eggs
- 2 c. flour (all-purpose)
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 c. melted shortening
- 3 c. buttermilk
- 2 tsp. salt
Directions

1Measure and sift (optional) mix together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.

2Add cornmeal.

3In separate bowl, mix together the shortening, sugars, eggs and buttermilk.

4Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients.

5Beat only until smooth.

6Fill well oiled shallow pan 2/3 full (9 x 13 x 2-inch pan).

7Bake in hot oven (400° to 450°) for 25 to 30 minutes.
