Ingredients

  • 1/2 green pepper
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. paprika
  • 1/4 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1 beaten egg
  • a little sugar (optional)
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. dry bread crumbs (cubes)
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 c. either whole grain, cream-style or fresh, cooked corn
  • 1/2 c. buttered crumbs (either bread or cracker)

Directions

    Cook pepper and onion in 2 tablespoons of butter 5 minutes, stirring constantly.

    Add flour mixed with seasonings and stir until blended.

    Add milk and cook until thick.

    Brown bread in 1 tablespoon of butter and add with corn and egg.

    Turn into greased baking dish.

    Cover with crumbs.

    Bake in 400° oven for 20 minutes.
