Ingredients
- 1 c. all-purpose flour
- 2/3 c. cornmeal
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. bacon drippings
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 to 1 1/4 c. buttermilk
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 lb. frankfurters
- vegetable oil
- mustard, catsup, picante sauce (optional)
Directions

1Combine first 5 ingredients; stir in bacon drippings.

2Combine eggs, buttermilk, and soda, mix well.

3Stir into flour mixture, mixing well.

4Cut each frankfurter into 10 pieces.

5Dip each piece into the batter covering completely (wooden picks work well for dipping).

6Drop into 3 or 4-inch deep hot oil and cook until golden, turning once.

7Drain on paper towels.

8Insert party pick and serve immediately with mustard, catsup or picante sauce. Makes about 10 servings.

9To make corn dogs leave frankfurters whole and insert wooden skewers.
