  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 c. buttermilk

    Finish thickening with meal until a little thicker than egg bread.

    Grease stem pan and paper the bottom.

    Put in stem pan. Cook over hot water for 1 1/2 hours, then bake until brown, about 30 minutes, at 450°.
