Ingredients

  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. bacon drippings
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. plain corn meal (preferably stone-ground white)

Directions

    Mix all together, except drippings.

    Put drippings in pan and heat.

    Add to mixture and bake at 400° until done.

    (We triple the recipe in the Tullie kitchen and cook in a 10-inch spider pan.

    Do not triple salt if you use drippings.)
