  • 3/4 c. flour (self-rising)
  • 1 1/4 c. corn meal
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 to 2 Tbsp. oil or bacon drippings

    Put oil in iron skillet in hot oven (425° to 450°) to melt. Do not burn.

    Mix dry ingredients well. Add milk and egg.

    Mix well. Add hot oil.

    Flour skillet and pour in bread mixture. Bake until brown, about 20 to 25 minutes.
