  • 1 c. flour (self-rising)
  • 1 c. corn meal (self-rising)
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 4 Tbsp. melted shortening

Directions

    Sift dry ingredients together.

    Add beaten egg and buttermilk to make batter stiff.

    Add slightly cooled shortening and beat until well mixed.

    Bake at 425° in greased pan for 15 minutes. Then brush top with margarine and bake 10 more minutes.
