- 3 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (about 5 c.)
- 1 clove garlic, peeled
- 6 tsp. butter
- pinch of nutmeg
- 1 1/2 c. heavy cream
- salt to taste
Directions

1Preheat the oven to 450°.

2Dry the potato slices in a cloth. Rub the garlic around the inside of a baking dish.

3Butter the dish well, using a third of the butter and arrange the potato slices in layers.

4Season the layers with salt and sprinkle top lightly with nutmeg.

5Pour over the cream.

6Dot the remaining butter over the surface.

7Bake in the oven for 10 minutes.

8Then lower the heat to 350° and cook for another hour.

9For less rich potatoes, use milk.

10Makes 4 servings.
