Ingredients

  • 6 qt. sliced cucumbers, 1/8-inch thick
  • 1 qt. thinly sliced onions
  • 1 c. salt
  • 2 qt. cold water
  • 4 trays ice cubes
  • 1 Tbsp. turmeric
  • 1 tsp. celery seed
  • 1 tsp. white mustard seed
  • 3 lb. white sugar
  • 1 c. water
  • 5 c. vinegar

    Soak cucumbers and onions in salt, 2 quarts water and ice cubes for 3 hours.

    Drain well. Thoroughly mix turmeric, celery seed, mustard seed, sugar, 1 cup water and vinegar; heat to boiling.

    Add drained vegetables and bring to full rolling boil. Quickly fill hot sterilized jars making sure vinegar solution covers vegetables and seal each jar at once.
