  • 1 c. dates
  • 1 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1 Tbsp. Crisco
  • 2 1/4 c. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Combine dates, boiling water and Crisco; let stand for 10 minutes.

    Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda.

    Cream the sugar and egg.

    Add nuts to the flour mixture. Add vanilla to dates and water.

    Add sugar and egg to date mixture.

    Add flour mix to date mixture gradually and blend. Grease and flour pan.

    Bake at 350° for 35 minutes or until done.
