Ingredients

  • 2 c. dates, cut fine
  • 1 3/4 c. boiling water
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3/4 c. nutmeats
  • 2 3/4 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder

Directions

    Pour hot water over dates; let stand.

    Add butter to hot mixture.

    Cream sugar, egg and vanilla together; add dates and nutmeats to mixture.

    Last, add flour, salt, soda and baking powder, all sifted together.

    Mix and bake in slow oven at 300° for 1 hour.

    Bake in well-greased baking pans or cans.

    Fill cans only halfway full.
