- 1 cup dates, chopped fine
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
- 3/4 cup boiling water
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 3/4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
Directions

1Mix well in a bowl the dates, brown sugar, butter and boiling water.

2Stir until butter melts.

3Stir in the egg, baking soda, flour, salt and nuts.

4Place in a buttered loaf pan (9x5) and bake at 350° for about 1 hour, or until a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean.
