- 2 cups dates, stoned and quartered
- 1 12 cups water, boiling
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- 1 egg, beaten
- 12 teaspoon salt
- 2 34 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 1 cup walnuts, chopped
Directions

1Pour boiling water over chopped dates and set aside.

2Cream sugar and melted butter together.

3Add egg and salt to butter/sugar mixture.

4Sift together flour and baking soda.

5Add flour mixture alternately with water drained from dates to the creamed mixture.

6Fold in vanilla, nuts and dates.

7Turn into a large greased loaf pan.

8Bake at 350 for 1 hour.
