  • 2 cups dates, stoned and quartered
  • 1 12 cups water, boiling
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 2 34 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped

Directions

    Pour boiling water over chopped dates and set aside.

    Cream sugar and melted butter together.

    Add egg and salt to butter/sugar mixture.

    Sift together flour and baking soda.

    Add flour mixture alternately with water drained from dates to the creamed mixture.

    Fold in vanilla, nuts and dates.

    Turn into a large greased loaf pan.

    Bake at 350 for 1 hour.
