- 3/4 c. chopped nuts
- 1 c. chopped dates
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 c. flour
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 3/4 c. boiling water
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. sugar
Directions

1Combine nuts, dates, soda and salt.

2Add shortening and water; allow 15 minutes to cool.

3Stir to blend.

4Beat eggs slightly; add vanilla.

5Stir in sugar and flour.

6Add to date mixture.

7Don't overmix.

8Place in greased loaf pan.

9Bake at 350° for 1 hour. Cool before removing from pan.
