- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. chopped nuts
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 Tbsp. butter
- 1/2 lb. dates, cut in thirds
- 1/2 c. raisins
- 1 1/2 c. boiling water
- 2 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 eggs
- 2 c. plus 2 Tbsp. flour
Directions

1Mix first 6 ingredients together and put boiling water over mix and let stand for 15 minutes to soften fruit.

2Add baking powder, vanilla, eggs and flour.

3Bakes well in 3 greased tennis ball cans, in 350° oven for 35 to 40 minutes.

4Run knife around edges and remove while still quite hot.

5Can also bake in greased bread pans or muffin tins.
