  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. chopped dates
  • 1 Tbsp. oleo
  • 1 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. or more nuts

Directions

    Pour boiling water over dates; let stand.

    Cream oleo, sugar and egg.

    Add water and dates to creamed mixture.

    Add flour sifted with soda and salt, vanilla and nuts.

    Pour into bread loaf pan.

    Bake at 350° for about 1 hour.

    Wrap in foil 1 day before slicing.
