- 1 1/4 c. sifted flour
- 1/4 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. chopped pecans or walnuts
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 pkg. dates, cut in small pieces
- 1 c. boiling water
- 1/4 c. butter or margarine
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg
Directions

1Heat oven to 300°.

2Sift flour with baking powder and salt, then stir in the nuts.

3Mix soda into the dates, then pour boiling water over them.

4Cream the butter until fluffy.

5Add the sugar; cream again, then beat in the egg.

6Add the flour mixture; mix thoroughly, then stir in the soaked dates.

7Pour into a buttered 9-inch square pan and bake for 1 hour.

8Cool on a rack, then turn out and cut into squares.

9Serve with any pudding sauce.
