- 1 cup black walnuts; chopped
- 1 cup water; boiling
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup general purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
Directions

1Stir the dates and nuts into the boiling water, and let this set while preparing the batter.
