Deep-Dish Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 8 cooking apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 3/4 to 1 c. sugar (amount depends on sweetness of apples)
  • 3 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 1 (9-inch) pastry to top pie (recipe follows)

Directions

    Arrange apple slices in a lightly greased 9-inch square baking dish.

    Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Sprinkle over apples and dot with butter.

    Top with pastry and bake at 400° for 40 minutes or until golden brown. Serves 6 to 8.
