Deep Fried Fontina Bites

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1 None large egg
  • 1 1/2 cups dried breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped fresh oregano leaves
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 18 oz fontina cheese, cut into 2/3 x 1 1/2 inch chunks
  • None None vegetable oil, for deep-frying

Directions

    Combine flour and cornstarch in a medium bowl. Gradually stir in egg and 3/4 cup water until smooth. Combine breadcrumbs, herbs and cayenne in another medium bowl.

    Dip cheese in batter then in breadcrumb mixture. Repeat process to double-coat each piece.

    Heat oil in a wok to 350°F. Working in batches, deep-fry cheese until lightly browned. Drain on paper towels.
