  • 3 qt. water
  • 1 qt. vinegar
  • 1 c. coarse salt
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1/2 carrot
  • 1 piece onion
  • dill
  • alum

Directions

    Put dill, onion, garlic, carrot and alum in jar.

    Boil liquid; pour hot over pickles.

    Seal.

    Put in boiling water and turn off heat.

    Leave in hot water until pickles turn color.

    Makes about 8 quarts.
