- 1 hot pepper (optional)
- 1 clove garlic
- 1/4 tsp. alum
- 1 head fresh dill (in bottom)
- 6 c. vinegar
- 3 qt. water
- 1/3 c. coarse pickling salt
Directions

1Put dill in bottom, then spears.

2Make brine of vinegar, water and salt.

3Boil with dill.

4Top with lid; pack.

5Let stand for 6 weeks.

6Shake every little while.
