  • early cukes spears (wash stuff in jars)
  • 1 hot pepper (optional)
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/4 tsp. alum
  • 1 head fresh dill (in bottom)
  • 6 c. vinegar
  • 3 qt. water
  • 1/3 c. coarse pickling salt

Directions

    Put dill in bottom, then spears.

    Make brine of vinegar, water and salt.

    Boil with dill.

    Top with lid; pack.

    Let stand for 6 weeks.

    Shake every little while.
