Directions

   Cook first four ingredients over medium heat until soft ball forms in water.

   Take out 1/2 cup of mixture and pour over egg whites.

   (Mix thoroughly and set aside.)

   Continue cooking sugar mixture to hard ball stage or until it spins a thread when held up on spoon. Add to egg white mixture, beating constantly. Add vanilla and/or nuts, cherries, walnuts, etc. for variety.
