- 4 c. whole wheat pastry flour
- 6 level tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 tsp. baking soda
- 3 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 3 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Sift dry ingredients into bowl.

2With fork or pastry blender, incorporate shortening into flour until like cornmeal.

3Gradually add milk, blending with fork until spongy, mixing in all the flour.

4Turn out onto floured board, kneading until smooth.

5Round up on board; cover with bowl and let rest 10 minutes.

6Uncover and work down.

7Pat out to desired thickness and cut.
