- 3 1/2 c. flour
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. milk
Directions

1Heat fat or oil, 3 to 4 inches deep, to 375° in deep fat fryer or kettle.

2Measure 1 1/2 cups of flour and the remaining ingredients into large mixer bowl.

3Blend 1/2 minute on low speed, scraping bowl constantly.

4Beat 2 minutes on medium speed, scraping bowl occasionally.

5Stir in remaining flour.

6Turn dough onto well floured cloth covered board; roll around lightly to coat with flour.

7Roll dough gently 3/8-inch thick.

8Cut with floured doughnut cutter.

9With wide spatula, slide doughnuts into hot fat. Turn doughnuts as they rise to surface.

10Fry 2 to 3 minutes, or until golden brown on both sides.

11Carefully remove from fat; do not prick the surface.

12Drain.

13Serve plain, sugared or frosted. Makes 2 dozen doughnuts.
