  • 6 ounces squares semisweet baking chocolate (or bittersweet)
  • 4 ounces squares unsweetened baking chocolate
  • 6 tablespoons butter or 6 tablespoons margarine
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chopped toasted walnuts (optional)

Directions

    Heat oven to 325.

    Put chocolate squares and butter in a large microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high 1 1/2 to 2 minutes, until chocolate is almost melted, stirring half way through heating time.

    Stir until chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.

    Stir sugar into chocolate until blended.

    Mix in eggs and vanilla.

    In small bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, and salt.

    Stir flour mixture into chocolate mixture.

    Stir in nuts.

    Drop by rounded tablespoons, 1 1/2 inches apart, on ungreased cookie sheets.

    Bake 12 minutes or until set. DO NOT OVERBAKE.

    Cool 5 minutes; remove from baking sheet to wire racks.
