Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. melted lard
  • 1 1/2 qt. warm water
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. salt
  • 2 pkg. dry yeast, prepared in water-sugar mix
  • 3 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 eggs
  • flour to make nice dough

Directions

    Mix first 4 ingredients, then add flour to thicken slightly. Add the next 3 ingredients and mix.

    Add flour until right for punching.

    Lard sides of pan.

    Knead a few minutes more.

    Let rise 2 times.

    Make into large 3-inch buns.

    Let raise.

    Bake at 350° and let cool.

    Slice each bun in 2 or 3 slices.

    Dry in low oven until crisp.
