  • 1 1/2 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1 egg white, beaten with a little water to make glaze
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 to 4 1/2 c. divided, sifted flour
  • melted butter

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in water and set aside.

    Bring milk almost to a boil, remove from heat and add butter, sugar and salt.

    Cool to lukewarm.

    Pour into a bowl with 1 cup of the flour and yeast mixture.

    Mix well, then gradually add as much of the flour as needed to form a soft, but not sticky dough.
