  • 2 lb. lean beef stew meat (1-inch pieces)
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 2 Tbsp. margarine
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp. salt (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/8 tsp. thyme
  • 1/2 bay leaf
  • 2 c. water
  • 6 onions, cut into chunks (1-inch pieces)
  • 6 carrots, cut into chunks (1-inch pieces)
  • 6 potatoes, cut into chunks (1-inch pieces)

Directions

    Roll meat in flour and brown in margarine.

    Add tomato sauce, salt, pepper, thyme, bay leaf, and water.

    Simmer 1 1/2 hours until meat is tender.

    Add onions, carrots and potatoes.

    May also add peas.

    Cook 20 minutes or until vegetables are tender.
