  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3 c. flour
  • 2/3 c. shortening
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. water
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Mix first 6 ingredients until creamy in a large bowl.

    Cream 2 minutes until smooth.

    Beat egg whites until frothy. Add baking powder and beat until stiff.

    Fold whites and vanilla into mixture.

    Pour into greased and floured pans (Makes 2 thick or 3 thin layers).

    Bake at 375° for 25 to 30 minutes.

    Makes good cupcakes.
