Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp. salad oil
- 2 to 3 lb. roast
- 1 pkg. dry onion soup mix
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- water
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 Tbsp. flour or cornstarch
Directions

1In a Dutch oven over medium heat in salad oil, brown a roast on all sides.

2Pour off the fat.

3Empty soup mix on the meat. Stir in mushroom soup, 1/4 cup water and bay leaf (remove before serving).

4Cover.

5Simmer 2 1/2 to 3 hours until tender.

6Add more water as necessary during cooking.

7Remove beef to platter.

8Add flour or cornstarch to 1/4 cup water.

9Stir until smooth.

10Stir into pan drippings over high heat, stirring constantly.

11Cut meat into thin slices.

12Serve meat and gravy together.
