- 1 slice bread
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1 egg

1With a 2 1/2-inch round cutter, cut out a circle on the slice of bread.

2Melt butter in a heavy frying pan.

3Put in both pieces of bread.

4Cook over moderate heat until they begin to brown. Break an egg into the hole and sprinkle it with salt and pepper. Continue cooking until the bread is brown.

5Turn and brown the other side.

6Add butter as needed to keep the bread from sticking. Serve with the cut-out piece on top.
