Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground lean beef
  • 28 oz. can Italian tomatoes (juice reserved)
  • 1/4 c. tomato paste, divided
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp. ground allspice
  • 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp. salt (if desired)
  • 2 or 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 medium eggplants (unpeeled)
  • a little oil for rubbing

Directions

    Preheat oven to 450°.

    Mix ground meat with 1/2 cup of the juice from the tomatoes and 2 teaspoons of the tomato paste.

    Add onion, green pepper, allspice, pepper, salt and garlic.

    Mix well and set aside.
