   Preheat oven to 350°.

   Cream butter and shortening.

   Add sugar and beat well.

   Add egg yolks.

   Combine flour and soda and add to mixture alternately with milk.

   Stir in vanilla.

   Add coconut and nuts.

   Fold in egg whites.

   Pour into cake pans and bake at 350° for 25 minutes.
