- 3 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 c. granulated sugar
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 1/2 c. coarsely chopped English walnuts
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 1/2 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Into mixing bowl, sift flour with sugar, baking powder and salt.

2Cut into shortening.

3Stir in 1 1/4 cups of the walnuts. Add egg, milk and vanilla.

4Mix just until ingredients are blended.

5Turn into pan.

6Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup of walnuts over top.

7Bake for 60 to 70 minutes or until leaf tests done. Let stand in pan 10 minutes.

8Turn out onto wire rack to cool. Makes 1 loaf.
