- 2 c. sifted self-rising flour
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 1 c. buttermilk
- melted butter
Directions

1Preheat oven to 425°.

2Sift together flour, sugar and soda. With pastry blender or 2 knives, cut shortening into flour mixture until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3Stir in buttermilk.

4Knead dough on floured board or cloth 10 times or until smooth.

5Roll to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into 2 1/2-inch rounds with floured biscuit cutter.

6Place biscuits, touching, on ungreased baking sheet.

7Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden.

8Brush with melted butter immediately after removing from oven.

9Makes 8 to 10 biscuits.
