Ingredients
- 1 c. whole milk
- 1 c. water
- 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 2 envelopes dry yeast
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 c. luke warm water
- 8 c. sifted all-purpose flour
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350°.

2Scald (don't boil) milk and water; pour over shortening and salt.

3Cool to lukewarm.

4In a separate bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in lukewarm water.

5Add to mixture.

6Add 4 cups flour and beat well.

7Add remaining flour.
-
8The mixture should not be too sticky.

9If so, add a little more flour.
-
10Cover and let rise to doubled size.

11Turn onto board and knead.
-
12Make 3 large loaves or 5 small loaves.

13Put into loaf pans and let rise to double size.

14Then bake at 350° until top is brown.

15When cool, slice and butter slices.

16May wrap with foil and freeze.

17Reheat when desired.

18For a whole wheat bread, use 1/2 of flour whole wheat.
