  • 1 gal. cucumbers, cut crosswise
  • 4 Tbsp. alum
  • 2 Tbsp. plain salt
  • 2 Tbsp. pickle spices
  • 5 lb. sugar
  • vinegar

Directions

    Put cucumbers in a gallon jar.

    Fill jar with vinegar, salt, alum and spices.
  3. 3
    Leave for 8 weeks.
  4. 4
    After 8 weeks, drain well; pour off vinegar and spices.
  5. 5
    Add 5 pounds sugar to pickles. Sugar will dissolve and make syrup.

    Refrigeration is not necessary.

    Do not need to seal.
