- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. warm water
- 5 c. flour
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
- melted butter
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in water and set aside.

2Combine flour, baking powder, soda, salt and sugar in large bowl.

3Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal.

4Add buttermilk and mix well. Stir in yeast mixture.

5Turn dough out on a lightly floured surface and knead 1 to 2 minutes.

6Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness.

7Cut. Place on greased baking sheet and brush tops with melted butter. Bake at 400° for 15 minutes.

8(If you don't have buttermilk, add a teaspoon of vinegar or lemon juice to a cup of milk and let stand for a few minutes.)
